Description

I've been putting a lot of thought into why I've been creating these digital portrait paintings. What purpose have they been serving, and is there an underlying message behind them? I know that I love creating art with sense of story shrouded in mystery. I love art that is emotional, and vulnerable. I love art that makes you feel something. I'm going to be putting a lot more thought into the meaning behind these pieces.

I think that with this one, I wanted to show a strong woman who has endured great struggles, but who is still able to see beauty in dark times. That might even be the underlying theme with all of these portraits. Being wounded, but not giving up. Seeing light, when darkness surrounds us. Being strong when we want to be weak.

I've been trying to make the work appear as organic and "traditional" as possible. I want these portraits to appear more of a combination between charcoal, pencil, and paints, rather than digital.

At the moment there will be no prints available for this portrait. I'm toying with the idea of either making a very limited print series of it, or possibly even printing it off myself as a one of a kind original and painting on a textured gel layer over top of it to add a little extra dimension. I want to start planning art shows, and I'm thinking that having originals might be a little more interesting.

I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts and ideas on how I should be proceeding with my future artwork. I've also been contemplating using some of my digital paintings as reference for getting back into traditional oil painting.

Let me know what you think!
